Shakopee is a growing riverside suburb of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro. It is home to popular attractions, including the fun-filled, 125-acre Valleyfair Amusement Park, Canterbury Park with its horse races and entertainment, Murphy’s Landing, a living history museum, and on weekends each fall, the popular Renaissance Festival which creates an interactive fantasyland of 16th century England, complete with artisans, shopping, costumed characters and jousting.

Shakopee has attracted major businesses such as Amazon and Shutterfly. Unlike some suburbs, there is available land which makes it especially attractive for business and residential new construction. The city is offering incentives for businesses to make land and building improvements, grow their businesses or relocate to Shakopee. The city is also encouraging growth in the areas of dining and retail experiences.

For a city of over 40,000 residents, Shakopee offers recreational amenities, affordable housing and a reasonable commute. The city’s diverse population is served by the Shakopee School District with a smaller portion of residents falling into the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District. There are also two parochial elementary schools from which to choose. The city now boasts a renovated Community Center with ice arena, indoor aquatic center and senior lounge.
