Carefully read the reports to make sure there aren’t any errors. If there are, dispute them and make sure the report is corrected. You can work on disputes with the credit bureau or directly call the company or organization that has reported the error. 2. Credit scores

Your credit score (sometimes called FICO score) is based on the credit report information and is determined by 5 financial management categories. They are listed here in order of importance and approximate weight given that category as shown by the percentage:

• Debt percentage/outstanding balances 30%,
• Length of credit history 15%,
• New accounts/credit requests 10% and
• The type of credit accounts/credit mix 10%.

Each credit bureau may use slightly different weight systems, but this list would be considered typical.
